Series: Book 8 in the Mercy Thompson series
An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam’s ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from her new boyfriend. Adam isn’t the kind of man to turn away a person in need—and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam’s house, Mercy can’t shake the feeling that something about the situation isn’t right. Soon, her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the farthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen, including turning Adam’s pack against Mercy.
Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. Christy’s ex is more than a bad man—in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.
Gah why is every book in this series so damn good? Christy, the dreaded ex, comes back into the picture and drags along with her a slew of problems, including the fact that she’s being stalked by a psychotic volcano god (which she doesn’t bother to tell them about) and it’s what you’d expect- lots of fights, chases, action and violence, and it’s soooo good.
There’s also the issue of an old Fae searching for the walking stick that Mercy gave to Coyote- so she has to try and hunt him down to retrieve it back, resulting in the usual Coyote madness (he is honestly one of the greatest characters recently introduced to the series, as anything can and will happen when he turns up and it’s awesome) and it also brings Mercy a brother she didn’t know she had.
Yet another brilliant installment in this series, I don’t know how many more books we can get out of the series but they haven’t yet started to get boring or repetitive, so that’s promising!
