Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets–and human lives.
In the aftermath of a forbidden moment that rocked Sydney to her core, she finds herself struggling to draw the line between her Alchemist teachings and what her heart is urging her to do. Then she meets alluring, rebellious Marcus Finch–a former Alchemist who escaped against all odds, and is now on the run. Marcus wants to teach Sydney the secrets he claims the Alchemists are hiding from her. But as he pushes her to rebel against the people who raised her, Sydney finds that breaking free is harder than she thought. There is an old and mysterious magic rooted deeply within her. And as she searches for an evil magic user targeting powerful young witches, she realizes that her only hope is to embrace her magical blood–or else she might be next.
We have the introduction of a new character in the form of Marcus Finch, an ex-alchemist, who Sydney hunts down in order to find out how he left the Alchemists. He’s smoking hot, but Sydney seems to be the only female immune to his charms because she’s totally hung up on Adrian, and totally trying to lie to herself about it. Enter a thousand steamy scenes where Sydney and Adrian attempt to act like they don’t like each other and then end up making out and oh, this was just soooo damn good.
My favourite scene was the t-shirt painting scene. I don’t know why that spoke to me so much, but it did. Well, that and the Bunny room, that had me giggling. Adrian is on top form throughout this book, hilarious and sexy and where can I get one of him IRL?
There is also the threat of this witch hunting down young girls and stealing their youth and their power, so Sydney and Adrian attempt to hunt the at-risk girls down to warn them. Meanwhile, Sydney has embraced the witch world and is improving her skills, even creating a little dragon that she and Adrian take joint-custody of- which is so cute it hurts. I love that little dragon.
This book was my favourite one so far, it’s just got everything I could want in a book. A super sarcastic hot guy who is devoted to the nerdy girl. A zany sidekick/mascot dragon. A crazy mentor witch lady. Serious action. Steamy scenes involving making out and decorating t-shirts at a kegger instead of drinking. Yes, this was amazing.
The Indigo Spell rating: 10000/10.
