Series: Book 6 in the Mercy Thompson series
Being a different breed of shapeshifter- a walker- Mercy Thompson can see ghosts, but the spirit of her long-gone father has never visited her. Until now, on her honeymoon with the Alpha werewolf Adam. An evil is stirring in the depths of the Columbia River-and innocent people are dying. As other walkers make their presence known to Mercy, she must reconnect with her heritage to exorcise the world of the legend known as the river devil…
This book was damn good. Mercy’s father has always been an enigma, so in this book, we get to meet him… kinda. Coyote is a mischievous spirit and I loved the interaction between him and Mercy, as he was just annoying as hell- and it was hilarious. The introduction of the Native American mythology really interested me in this book and I really want to learn more about it and about the people themselves.
The story itself started off with the wedding between Mercy and Adam, and it was very sweet, if not a little funny, and the honeymoon is pure Mercy in that it was chaotic and dangerous, what we would come to expect from her character. There were all sorts of new friends made, as well as a lot more of Mercy’s Native American background made clear, plus the introduction of new Fey creatures. It’s also mainly situated outside of Mercy’s normal stomping ground, so we don’t have the usual characters stopping in to help- which added a fresh new dynamic to the series, as Mercy and Adam have to rely on making new friends instead of turning to those they normally would.
