Immortal Hearts (Vampire Kisses, #9)

Published in: 2012

Edition read: E-book
Series: 9th and final book in the Vampire Kisses series

Book description:
Athena “Stormy” Sterling is coming to Dullsville, and Raven is both excited and panicked in anticipation of Alexander’s little sister’s visit. Alexander tells Raven that she and his sister have a lot in common, but can the mini-Raven be everything she hopes for? Alexander calls her Stormy for a reason. Stormy’s visit stirs up the perfect immortal whirlwind. Raven is forced to take a good look at what it would really mean to be a vampire in the Sterling family, aside from some of the things she already loves, like shunning the sun and sleeping in a coffin with Alexander. When Raven compares her life with Stormy’s, she can see that it’s not all starry skies and black roses. But Raven knows she’s always wanted to be a vampire.

Alexander is as romantic and dreamy as ever, and though he keeps showing Raven how much he loves her, will she ultimately be able to convince him that it’s the right thing to turn her?

My review:
Blech. What a load of drivel. This book, this series, had the potential to be much better than it is, but the author relies on these cheap nasty stereotypes of what she thinks the Goth culture is, and assumes that if you’re a vampire, you clearly have to be a stereotypical Goth. It frustrated me throughout the series, including this book where we meet Alexander’s younger sister Athena, who goes by Stormy because she used to throw tantrums as a kid (…because that’s a logical reason to call a kid Stormy) who is basically a mini-Raven, a Goth cliche that makes you cringe. There are sweet moments between Stormy and Raven’s brother, there are some cute storylines, but overall this book was blech.

Plus, the ending. It goes without saying that of course Alexander is gonna turn Raven into a vampire, because troooo–looooovvveee. Nevermind she’s 17 years old and still has a year left of high-school, and has only ever had one job in her life, and the fact that Alexander and Raven have only been dating barely a year. Nevermind those pesky minor details, now that she’s a vampire Raven can’t go out in daylight, so no more school. Good luck explaining that to the parents. But hey, she also now gets to ‘sleep in a coffin with Alexander’ every night…. but wait, doesn’t she still live with her parents? So she gets her own coffin to sleep in… again, how do you explain that to your parents? Clearly this whole thing was not thought out at all, but that’s okay because they are teenagers in love who are now also vampires and the world is all okay again /sarcasm.

Rant over. Book wasn’t the worst ever, but most of it irritated the shit out of me. Series is the same. Not the worst, but it isn’t great. At least it’s done now!
