Book #: Book 12, final book in the Guardians of Eternity series
Cyn, the vampire clan chief of Ireland, is an unabashed hedonist whose beauty is surpassed only by his insatiable appetite for pleasure. It’s no wonder he’s furious when he’s transported from the magical land of the pureblooded feys to his desolate private lair—only to have his very existence thrown into a chaos that even he cannot charm his way out of…
Most women may be all but powerless against Cyn, but Fallon, a sharp-witted fairy princess, is less than beguiled by the silver-tongued vampire. She’s a serious soul with no time for the sort of games he plays—especially when they learn that someone is trying to close the veil that separates the dimensions. But seduction may prove the most powerful force of all, as attraction ignites between the unlikely pair even as worlds are colliding around them…
I’m a bit sad that this series is over- it’s been so much fun to read, the characters are really great and I like that the characters from earlier books continue to feature in the later books. In this book, we focus on Cyn and Fallon, as our main characters who fall in love/become mated. They have a nice relationship, Fallon is sweet and innocent and trying to find out who she is, after centuries of playing the perfect princess for her father. Cyn is a warrior who likes to indulge, and Fallon is the perfect person to tame him. It’s really fun to read their story, and a good way to send off the series.
We also have a side-story of Magnus, Fallon’s ex-fiance, and Tonya, the sister to Troy, the prince of Imps. I feel that they may have started off being the couple of the next book, but then the author decided to end the series so we got it shoved into this story. I say this as it starts really good… and then all of a sudden, bam they are engaged. I was like, that was awfully sudden. They didn’t even get to have sexytimes before they were engaged.
There’s also another end-of-the-world scenario playing out, it’s good but not as good as some of the other apocalyptic scenarios in previous books. The book also ends on a scene of Styx, Viper, and Dante having a drink together- something that they clearly do not do often, and they are all acting like old friends and reminiscing over the past year of disasters and sexytimes and I was like… ok, I get that this is summing up the whole series and all, but… it should have ended on the scene prior to that. This felt unnecessary. Although I could be bitter because now this series is over and what will I do with my free time now? I’m going to miss reading about Styx and Salvatore being frenemies. 😦
When Darkness Ends rating: 8/10
Guardians of Eternity series rating: 9.5/10. This was such a fun series to read, with great characters and a great action-packed story in each book. I loved every moment of this series and am seriously bummed that there was only 12 books in the series!
Would I re-read it? The book= yes. The series= hells yes
Who would I recommend it to? I would recommend this book to fans of the series. I would recommend this series to anyone who likes paranormal romances featuring vampires and werewolves, or similar series.
