Book #: Book 6 in the Morganville Vampires series
In the small college town of Morganville, vampires and humans lived in (relative) peace—until all the rules got rewritten when the evil vampire Bishop arrived, looking for the lost book of vampire secrets. He’s kept a death grip on the town ever since. Now an underground resistance is brewing, and in order to contain it, Bishop must go to even greater lengths.
He vows to obliterate the town and all its inhabitants—the living and the undead. Claire Danvers and her friends are the only ones who stand in his way. But even if they defeat Bishop, will the vampires ever be content to go back to the old rules, after having such a taste of power?
Oh, poor Claire. She has been turned into Bishop’s evil minion, and so has Michael. Shane is currently in jail sharing a cell with his father and sentenced to death, and poor Eve is all alone in the Glass House, trying to win everyone back. But there is hope, as Claire knows this is all wrong and is trying to defy Bishop. Although along the way, there are some surprises- I did not expect that to happen to Shane’s dad, not at all. That one threw me, and I wonder how this will impact the rest of the series?
Lucky for everyone, they have people on the inside and they have plans to overthrow Bishop and his evil regime. Myrnin is becoming my favourite character in this series as he is just so weird and insane and it is awesome. The ending involves everyone gathered for a slaughter, but ready to defy Bishop and kick some serious ass- and it involves some deception and an unhappy death of a good character. That was disappointing, but at least it wasn’t one of the others, which it had been leading up to all throughout the book.
Carpe Corpus rating: 8.5/10.
Would I re-read it? Yes. I have yet to find a book I dislike in this series!
Who would I recommend it to? For people who enjoy paranormal fiction books featuring vampires, and young adult romances.
