Grudge (The Morganville Vampires, #2.6)Published in: 2012
Edition read: Online
Book #: Book 2.5 in the Morganville Vampire series

Book description:
This story details events discussed in The Dead Girls’ Dance about the death of Shane’s sister Alyssa.

My review:
So we learn in books 1 and 2 in this series that Shane’s younger sister Alyssa is killed in a horrific home fire, which then leads to his family leaving Morganville and his mother eventually being murdered which is staged as a suicide.

This novella is that story, of how Alyssa died. It is set 2 years prior to the Morganville Vampire series, as Shane and Michael are 16 in this story. Monica is the 16 year old psycho who is in love with Shane but he rejects her, so she gets her revenge- by burning his house down. You know, a normal reaction. However, Monica didn’t realise that Alyssa was inside.

It was short and only a few scenes, but it was good to read this background as it helped to shape the character of Shane as he appears in the series now. It also sheds light on what happened exactly, the events that led to this happening.

Final review:
Grudge rating:
Would I re-read it? No, it was a one-time thing. Having read it once was enough to give me the necessary background needed to keep reading the rest of the series.
Who would I recommend it to? It is really something that fans of the series should read, but otherwise not suited to anyone unless you have read at least one book in this series. The author seems to have published this novella simply to provide the background to eager fans.

I have to say that this is an interesting series to read as there are almost as many novellas/between-the-numbers books that occur as actual books in this series. I don’t plan on reviewing every single one of them- most are a page long, two tops- but the bigger ones or the ones that actually add to the storyline, they most likely will be reviewed.
