Book #: Book 20 in the Anita Blake series
A serial killer is hunting the Pacific Northwest, murdering victims in a gruesome and spectacular way. The local police suspect “monsters” are involved, and have called in Anita Blake and Edward, U.S. Marshals who really know their monsters, to catch the killer.
Are these books being written by different people? I’m serious, does Laurell have two different people writing this series? One book will be awesome, action adventure guns car chases vampire attacks… just awesome to read. Then the next book is purely sex scenes with no storyline.
This book was one of those awesome ones. Lots happens, limited sex scenes, big car chases and gun fights and attacks and the usual Anita kidnapping that seems standard with these books (Seriously, how many times does she get kidnapped in this series? I’ve lost count. I googled it… can’t find an answer. It’s gotta be somewhere near 20 times now, no joke. It’s a running theme in these books, Anita gets kidnapped by the bad guys and has to shoot her way out.
Anyways. This book was quite good, not as good as the earlier books, but still good. It’s the books like this one that makes me go “ooo maybe the series is swinging back to the old ways, to the good action filled storylines” only to be let down by the books full of sex and no storyline.
Hit List rating: 7/10.
Would I re-read it? Maybe. I’m more likely to read this one than the previous book in the series, that’s for damn sure.
Who would I recommend it to? Fans of the series, fans of the earlier books of the series (Skip book 19, hit book 20!), fans of paranormal romances and vampire and shapeshifter fictions.
